Hetalia x Reader World Masquerade Series: Intro
~~~ ҉ ~~~
The World Meeting was gathered as usual, on its usual date, the week before Halloween. It’s usual participants were doing as they usually did; England and France fighting, Italy babbling about pasta, Greece sleeping, Russia torturing the Baltics who cowered, Belarus stalking said brother, Poland attempting to protect poor Lithuania, and Germany finally becoming fed up and barking orders. Of course, at that point, all the present nations fell silent to the harsh commands of the German, listening with great respect or fear to his usual rules. Apparently, all was going according to the schedule they usually kept. Once all the idle prattle about the world’s problems was settled, or at least thought on, Germany prepared to dismiss the meeting. That is, until the only thing about the entire meeting that wasn’t acting as it usually did, which happened to be America, finally spoke up.
“Yo, dudes, what about our annual Halloween get-together party thing?!” He asked the silent crowd, who simply stared at him unsurprised. Only America, aka Alfred F. Jones, would think of such a thing when it was a week away. However, he had gotten their attention and they began to murmur about who was hosting this year. Almost every year, Alfred offered to host, and they assumed this was the reason he was bringing it up, but the American had a different idea. “I suggest that Iggy hosts the partay this year, guys!” Shocked silence met such a request, as it was, well, unusual. The mentioned Brit immediately stood up, protests sputtering from his lips.
“Why should I hold this event, you git? You always host it every year!” He crossed his arms, waiting for a suitable excuse from the American, though he expected none. So it surprised him when Alfred spoke.
“That’s just it, I always end up having the party at my place and then I have to play host! The Hero wants to party for once, too,” he whined, pouting at his ex-guardian.
“What would we even do at my place?!” Arthur continued to argue his point, hoping to turn the attention from himself. He seldom stood in the spotlight and preferred it that way. Therefore, he wasn’t thrilled with Alfred for suggesting he play host. He thought himself free as Alfred thought to himself for a fair amount of time, but Arthur’s stomach sank when that cocky smile rose to his lips.
“What about a ‘mass-ka-rad’? The people in your country seem to throw those pretty often,” he offered to the nervous Brit.
“It is pronounced masquerade!” Arthur immediately retaliated, but didn’t seem to have a suitable reason to deny such a request. He sighed, dropping his arms to his side in defeat, then glared at Alfred when he just sat there smiling like an idiot. “Well, go on, tell us all what your plan was.” Alfred practically squirmed in his seat with the force of his excitement.
“Okay, okay, so...we basically just dress however we want and wear masks. That’s the whole point of a masquerade, right?” Alfred asked casually, thinking of what he would dress up as this year. There were so many choices, how would he choose?!
Arthur sputtered in disbelief. “That isn’t at all what a masquerade ball is about! It’s a celebration of a higher calling! It’s been passed down through generations!” The Englishman gathered himself with a deep breath. “Your lack of knowledge is beside the point. The point of a ball is anonymity, which means we don’t dress by our preferences. We dress so no one can recognize us, understand?” Alfred nodded lazily, taking in this lesson while wondering how he would incorporate his usual Halloween spirit, so basically paying the lecturer no mind.
“Why don’t we host a World Masquerade?” This statement brought everyone’s attention to a certain Spaniard, Mr. Antonio Fernandez Carriedo. His usual lazy grin had vanished in place of one of interest. His emerald eyes were glowing with delight as he seemed to think. “We all wear our finest clothes from our culture, si?”
“That doesn’t help with anonymity, though,” Arthur commented, eager to keep his culture intact.
“Si, si, I know. But it is more exciting, no? And we can invite friends, admirers, secret lovers, and anyone else! They would not know us,” Antonio continued, merely wanting to wear his matador outfit once more. It wasn’t very often he could don such attire and he was very much looking forward to the chance. Or perhaps his conquistador costume would be more to the party’s taste? Oh, but then there was also..! The Spaniard’s mind wandered on a wild goose chase, leaving Arthur to decide. The Brit was less than thrilled, however, and glared at the happy-go-lucky Spaniard. But the more Arthur thought about it, the more appealing it seemed, and as the idea made its rounds about the room, more people began to accept the idea. Arthur was the last one left standing, and his resolution was wavering. Finally, by popular demand and even his own desires, he gave in.
“Alright, we can arrange the World Masquerade, but I propose we keep our additions to one person per invited guest,” Arthur amended, much to the displeasure of most who sought to bring many friends. Germany was one of the few who agreed with this suggestion and, with his usual yelling applied to an unusual situation, all opposition was wiped out.
“It’s settled! Get your invitations sent out to zose you vish to take two days before ze Masquerade. Or, if you are America, two days before Halloveen,” Germany, Ludwig, explained the rules and, finally, all were dismissed to arrange their outfits, masks, and most importantly, their plus ones. Who will you choose? Or, better yet, who will choose you?
England: Oh, this is rather upsetting. I guess I can't expect things to go smoothly for me all the time, now can I?
Japan: That is very true.
Sealand: Hello, Japan!
England: This is pathetic.
Sealand: Huh?
England: It just goes to show you how stupid little children can be! Japan is not magical so there will be no transforming. They use actors! They stick them inside those suits and pretend to battle.
Sealand: You're a big dream-killing liar facehole!
I decided I wanted to start a Hetalia series because I've seen so many and they're so good~! So I thought I'd try my hand at it. I love Masquerades, so I figured why the heck not start with one of these? If you have any suggestions, shoot them at me, it's perfectly fine! If you have a certain country preference and would like me to do that one a bit sooner, I can do just that. But you'll have to give me time since this is another first for me. Thanks all and I hope you enjoy! Welcome to the World Masquerade~! :3
